Jacob, just like his dad, doesn't like to do anything "normal"...not even bath time...

More Summer Fun

A Visit From Hungary

In August, we had some of Ian's relatives visit from Hungary. We stayed with them when we were in Hungary and it was nice to see them again and introduce them to Jacob. Amid many sightseeing trips, we managed to get together with them (and the rest of the Hanzeli clan) at a BBQ at Nana and Papa's. Jacob was a big hit and he didn't seem to mind the extra cuddles either : )

Jacob hangin' with Ian's cousin Gyozo and his girlfriend Anna. Anna was pretty fond of Jacob. Gyozo might have some competition.

Jacob and Daniel fighting over strawberries as Agi tries desperately to keep the bowl out of Jacob's reach. Sorry kiddo...no strawberries yet : (

Finally the whole Hanzeli clan...well almost. Ian and his cousin Trevor were in Spokane visiting Gonzaga (Go Bulldogs!) and another cousin, Alex, was busy too. Only three missing...not bad.

A Visit from Belgium...Rome...San Diego...Tucson?

In early September, we had some very good friends, the Andersons, come into town from...well, just about everywhere. They used to live in Issaquah, but over the years they've all moved away : (. Justin got married last May to a wonderful Belgian woman named Delphine and the family were all in town to celebrate the wedding with their Seattle friends. It was also a lot of fun to introduce Jacob to the Andersons. We had such a great time meeting Delphine and her brothers and we are so truly happy for Justin.

The day after the party, we took everybody out on Lake Washington for some cruising and tubing. We were a little worried about how Jacob would do on the boat, especially because there were a lot of really big waves that day. Jacob decided to put all our fears to rest though by laughing as we bounced over the big waves and, shortly after we started, passing out on Mom's lap, life jacket and all. In fact, his biggest complaint that day was the bright sun (see the pictures) so we kept his hat completely over his eyes. Thanks Kate for the pictures. We miss you!

"Hey, who turned on the lights?"

"Still too bright out here!"

Eventually he burrowed himself into his life jacket. I think he looks like a little turtle trying to hide from the sun.

Playing Catch-up

Well, we warned you from the beginning that there were no promises as to how often we would update the blog, but we do really need to do better. Here's what's been happening the last month and a half...

Yum...

Jacob had his first official meltdown about a month ago. We were sitting down to eat dinner and he dicided that sitting on Mom's lap and trying to keep her from getting any food in her mouth just wasn't good enough. He wanted the food in his mouth. Long story short, we weren't able to finish dinner until after he had gone to bed. The next day he got his wish and quickly finished off a bit of rice cereal and then he let us eat dinner in relative peace. Since then, he's had a bit of baby food at dinner most nights. His favorites so far: squash, pears, green beans, and prunes. Thankfully, he hasn't really disliked anything except carrot and avacado. At least he'll eat some vegetables. That's more than we can say for Dad : )

Mmm...prunes

He had about a tablespoon of carrots before deciding to spit the rest out and clamp his mouth shut. To be perfectly honest, we don't mind not having the bright orange stains to get out of his clothes.

Just Playing
Apart from other things, Jacob loves to play in his exersaucer and on his playmat. Mom loves the exersaucer because she can finally do some dishes or ...dare we say it...cook dinner while Jacob stays entertained. It's great!

"Hi Mom!"

"I was busy chewing on my toy. Did you want something?"

For some reason we can't get this picture to stay rotated, but we had to post this picture. Jacob is a pretty smiley baby (yay!) and this is definitely one of our favorite pictures of his smile so far.

By the by...were having issues with the font size...guess you wont need glasses to read this one. :)

Sitting like a big boy...well, kind of

Jacob loves to try and sit up striaght whenever he's in his car seat or the bouncer. In fact, he's getting pretty good at it, so we decided it's time to finally get some pictures of him sitting on the couch like a big boy. Here are the results...
So far so good...

Uh oh...found the toes

We're thinking it's a lost cause when he begins to list to the side

We'll you can't say we didn't try. There's always next week : )

Just Some More Pics

Well, it's been a while since we've posted anything so we're playing catch up. Here's what's been going on the last few weeks...

Jacob likes hanging out with Dad on the couch. Incidentally, he's recently discovered that it's great fun to hold on to his toes.

Finally, Jacob gets some much needed sleep, cuddling with his giraffe, Spots. He's been so miserable in the heat and this was his first good nap in about 2 days. Mom didn't know what to do with 1 1/2 hours of free time.

Jacob loves bath time, especially now that he has learned he can play tug-0-war with Mom using the washcloth. He's also figured out how to splash Mom so she's as wet as he is by the time he's clean.

We joined a bunch of our friends at their house on Lake Joy for the 4th. Jacob's too young to enjoy the lake this year, but that didn't stop him from enjoying haning out on the dock with Mom and Dad.

Baptism!!

Last Sunday, Jacob entered the Catholic Church with his baptism at St. Monica's. Just to make sure everyone knew that he was there and in charge of the day, about two minutes in to the baptism, at a perfect lull, a massive explosion emerged from his underworld blowing out of his diaper all over the inside of his new gown. Amazingly this didn't seem to bother him until about five minutes before the end. He was even willing to smile when he got the holy water poured over him (probably reminded him of bath time)...Thank God for white blankets

Matteo is working on how to hold a baby, one has to get prepared for the new bro/sis!!

Jacob wasn't 100% sold on this new person holding him...but then again it was in his 6:30pm crazy hour.....

"Oooo...lights"

Like father, like son. Jacob is showing his first traits from Dad...he is easily distracted by his crib toy. This is great when we need to put him down to run his bath but he is fussing. However, Mom has found a downside... this makes one more thing that used to help him get to sleep. Sorry Mom : )

Things Mom never wants to hear

Yesterday started as any other normal day, me going off to work and Robin and Jacob getting to stay at home and play together. The excitement started after work when i got home. I arrived home, kissed my wife and sat on the floor with Jacob and started having some good ol-tummy time. Mom, sits down on the computer to do some typing and listens to me get all excited over watching him roll over, twice none the less.

Then, the moment all moms, never want to hear, Jacob shrieks and I say

"Uh-oh, Honey his eye is bleeding" Freaking out, mom jumps out of the chair and rushes to her child(kicking me out of the way) to see what horrible things I have done to HER child. arriving on the floor she investigates to find that he had taken a chunk out of his lower eye lid with his finger nail and because of the little tears he just started making (sooooo cute) it looks as if his right eye is bleeding. After investigating and a little clean up, and some nail filing all is well........
